Jason Has Asthma

I spent the morning yesterday with Jsaon at the respiratory clinic. He did what was called the Methacholine Challenge. They measured his breathing capacity and then kept giving him doses of methacholine till it dropped 20%. Well, it never dropped. He maxed out at 6 doses and never dropped the magic number. They gave him allbuterol to counteract the methacholine and did another baseline.

We went home figuring that was that - no asthma because the methacholine didn't affect him. But we got a call from the doctor saying that even though he never dropped, when he took that final allbuterol, he improved 40% from his baseline. Definitely asthma.

So now Jason is on steroids, a diskus and allbuterol. He is supposed to improve in 5 days. It has been almost 2 years of trying to treat this. I will be so relieved if this works.
